Director of Marketing, Sales & Events

Job Purpose

The Director of Marketing, Sales & Events is a key member of the leadership team at the Montego Bay Convention Centre (MBCC). Under the direction of the Executive Director, this role is responsible for driving revenue growth, enhancing the Centre’s brand presence, and positioning MBCC as the premier venue in the Caribbean for conventions, tradeshows, consumer shows, and social functions.

The role combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership, ensuring excellence in sales, marketing, and event delivery. With a strong focus on international markets and collaboration with tourism and hospitality partners, the Director will spearhead initiatives that grow business, elevate client experiences, and showcase Jamaica’s unique cultural and commercial strengths.


Key Outputs

  • Strategic guidance to the Executive Director on all matters relating to Marketing, Sales & Events
  • Annual marketing and sales objectives developed and achieved
  • A strong public relations and brand image for MBCC cultivated and maintained
  • Effective advertising and publicity campaigns executed
  • Marketing materials, digital strategies, and processes designed for measurable impact
  • Accurate and timely statistics, reports, and budget presentations prepared

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Lead domestic, regional, and international sales efforts to attract conventions, conferences, and large-scale events.
  • Develop compelling bid proposals, negotiate contracts, and close agreements in line with MBCC policies.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to drive retention, repeat business, and long-term partnerships.
  • Represent MBCC at tradeshows, industry conferences, and hospitality networking events.

Marketing & Brand Strategy

  • Design and execute integrated marketing campaigns (digital, print, PR, and experiential) that strengthen MBCC’s visibility across local and global markets.
  • Oversee development of marketing collateral, promotional content, and digital assets.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all channels, positioning MBCC as a world-class facility rooted in Caribbean excellence.
  • Collaborate with the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA), and other stakeholders to amplify MBCC’s role as a key driver of destination tourism.

Events & Client Experience

  • Oversee the end-to-end client journey: from initial inquiry and proposal through event execution.
  • Partner with internal teams to deliver seamless, high-quality event services.
  • Conduct tours and presentations for prospective clients, showcasing MBCC’s facilities and services.
  • Introduce innovative event solutions that enhance client satisfaction and competitive advantage.

Leadership & Operations

  • Directly supervise the Sales, Marketing, PR, and Events teams, ensuring alignment with MBCC’s goals.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance management to team members.
  • Oversee departmental budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation and ROI on initiatives.
  • Stay informed on global industry trends to keep MBCC at the forefront of innovation.

Required Competencies

  • Proven success in a senior sales and marketing leadership role, ideally within hospitality, tourism, or venue management.
  • Expertise in digital and traditional marketing, content strategy, and social media.
  • Strong experience with contract negotiations, sponsorships, and event licensing agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage complex budgets.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in market research and performance reporting.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with high-level stakeholders, clients, and partners.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sales, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 7+ years’ experience in hospitality, event sales, or convention centre management with a proven track record in international markets (Caribbean, USA, Canada).
  • Experience managing and motivating diverse teams.
  • Strong understanding of the global meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry.

Special Conditions

  • Requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel internationally.
  • Must hold a valid passport and applicable visas.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments; role may involve extended hours and high-pressure situations.

Authorities of the Job

  • Direct supervisory responsibility for the Marketing, Sales & Events departments.
  • Authority to negotiate and finalize agreements within MBCC guidelines.
  • Responsibility to represent MBCC as spokesperson and industry leader.
